This demo tool simulates the Problem List of an Electronic Health Record to illustrate how the healthcare provider can capture clinical problems in SNOMED CT and then derive ICD-10-CM codes for reimbursement and other purposes.
Using the rule-based SNOMED CT to ICD-10-CM Map, the algorithm determines whether a valid ICD-10-CM code can be found based on the SNOMED CT term and patient context information (age and gender). The user will be prompted for additional input if a valid ICD-10-CM code cannot be decided (mandatory refinement).
Even when a valid ICD-10-CM code is found, the Map contains additional information on how the code can be refined (optional refinement) by additional user input e.g. laterality, trimester; or by choosing a more specific SNOMED CT concept (problem refinement).
ICD-10-CM coding notes associated with the ICD-10-CM code, if present, will give additional information e.g. restriction in the use of the code, other coding requirements.
For detailed documentation of the Map and the I-MAGIC algorithm, refer to Mapping SNOMED CT to ICD-10-CM Technical Specifications.
